A Wish for My Sis

I awoke today from a phone call from my brother Mark. My sister Diane had been rushed to the hospital. Diane has blood clots in her brain. They do not think that she will need surgery, but a cause has not been determined. I got home just a little while ago from the hospital. She went to the ER with a major headache, which she had thought was a severe migraine. They have been performing tests, which will continue tomorrow. They know they need to thin her blood. If she’s lucky it will be home on medication. If not, she will stay in the ICU unit. She’s my kid sister and one of the most important people in both my life and that of my children. If you have a moment please have a good thought for Diane.

She is without a doubt, as fine a person as there is on this planet. She is always there for her family and friends. Any member of her family or any of her vast array of friends, knows that Diane will can always be counted on. She is on morphine, which dulls the pain, but it is still there. Here’s an example of her humor. The doctor came in while I was there and asked a series of background questions. When she was asked, “Alcohol?” Diane responded, “Sure. I could use a drink. You buying?” We will return soon.

I am a kid sister and I have a kid sister, so I feel great empathy for both you and Diane. I know how hard this must be for you, but I also know how much it must mean to her to have you in her corner.

Gal-
So kind of you to say. If I can even be CLOSE to how she's been there for me, I will do well.

From one smartass to another - I really wish I had something witty and wise to say to even momentarily help you forget your anxiety and stress, but I'm at a loss. I can only say that I send good thoughts your way. Keep smiling, and keep your sister smiling. This too shall pass...

Good thoughts and chocolate.

What hospital should we send the tequila to? Cuz baby sisters are the coolest.

(I did smile at her reply to the "Alcohol" question.)

Hey Bud, my thoughts are with you and your little sister. People who are able to make jokes in scary situations are the most awesome kind of people, she sounds brilliant.
All my love to you and your family

Wish my kid sister was as funny as yours, but I also know how much I'd be affected if anything like that happened to her. All the best wishes to you and your sister.

That is scary! I pray they find what caused it, fix it and let her go home.

Obviously humor and wit run in the family, and laughter is the best medicine. Keep her laughing Bud, and hang in there. :)

Thinking positive thoughts for the recovery of your great sister! She sounds like I am when in the hospital on morphine - I once yelled "who's got the tacos?!" in my half sleep and always humorous self when I heard a doctor introduced herself as Dr. Ortega.

Bud Weiser, WTIT said...

Lyn-
That's a great line! Dr. Ortega!
